VDOT participates in Fifth Annual Slow Down Move Over Rally in Wytheville June 6

BRISTOL - Employees with the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Bristol District will participate in the 5th Annual Slow Down Move Over Rally Sunday, June 6 at Wytheville Community College from 7-9:30 p.m.

This will be a drive-thru event and is free and open to the public. Participants will enter from the Main Street entrance to Wytheville Community College to view the emergency vehicles along the route and exit via Community Blvd.

The rally gives emergency service organizations the opportunity to promote public safety and remind participants of the state law requiring motorists to slow down or move over when they see emergency vehicles with blue or amber lights working along the highway.

VDOT and other emergency services agencies will be along the route for children to look at the vehicles, displaying their emergency equipment and recreating activities such as loading a vehicle onto a tow truck.

“We were unable to hold the event in 2020, so coming up with a way to have a safe event in 2021 was a priority,” said VDOT Area Construction Engineer Todd Repass. “Our focus is on the Move Over Law and this event is viewed as a great educational opportunity on the law as well as local public safety organization’s commitment to the community.”

The event is sponsored by the American Society of Highway Engineers’ Blue Ridge Chapter and organized by 103 Towing in Wytheville. For more information, contact Clay Bush at 276-613-0997.    (END)
