FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The speed limit on Route 30 (Dawn Boulevard) will be temporarily reduced from 55 mph to 35 mph between I-95 in Hanover County and Signboard Road in Caroline County.

The speed limit is being reduced to promote traveler safety during the State Fair of Virginia.

The temporary 35 mph speed limit will be posted from Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 6. Signs and portable message boards will be installed this week by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to notify motorists of the speed limit reduction.

During the 2018 State Fair, the speed limit was lowered on Route 30 over an approximate one-mile segment. This year, the 35 speed limit zone will be extended west to the I-95 interchange at Exit 98 (Doswell).

“Traffic on Route 30 increases substantially during the State Fair of Virginia, and motorists must navigate temporary traffic patterns near the parking lot entrances and exits,” said Marcie Parker, VDOT Fredericksburg District Engineer. “Lowering the speed limit to 35 mph over 10 days creates a safer environment for travelers, fairgoers, and law enforcement personnel assisting with traffic control. Expanding the boundaries of this temporary speed limit zone will further promote safety in the Doswell area.”
