VDOT HOT SPOTS IN THE FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT Oct. 13 - Oct. 19, 2019
All work is scheduled weather permitting. Real-time information on work zones and lane closures is available on 511Virginia.org.

I-95 Northbound at Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 140 (Courthouse Road)

Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. One lane and the shoulder will be closed between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) for construction activities associated with the  I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension Project.

I-95 Northbound at Rappahannock River Bridge

Wednesday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. A single lane will be closed on I-95 northbound at the bridge over the Rappahannock River located north of Exit 133 (Rt. 17/Falmouth) for a routine bridge inspection.

I-95 Southbound

Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m.  One lane and the shoulder will be closed between Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road) and in the vicinity of Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) for construction activities associated with the  I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension Project.

Stafford County

Route 1 at Falmouth Bridge

Sunday − Thursday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 1 northbound and southbound at the Falmouth Bridge over the Rappahannock River for bridge repairs. All lanes will reopen on Route 1 northbound by 5 a.m.

Route 1 Southbound at Potomac Creek Drive

Monday − Thursday, 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. Expect a right lane closure on Route 1 southbound near Potomac Creek Drive for construction of a new left turn lane on Route 1 southbound.

Route 1 Southbound at South Campus Boulevard

Monday ₋ Friday,  8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on Route 1 southbound near South Campus Boulevard for construction activities as part of the Courthouse Road widening project.

Route 17 Northbound 

Monday – Thursday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m. Friday morning.  Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes between midnight and 3 a.m. for demolition of I-95 overpass. Stopped Route 17 northbound traffic will be permitted to clear in between each full traffic stop. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Single lane closures between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Route 17 Southbound 

Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Friday morning. Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes between midnight and 3 a.m. for demolition of I-95 overpass. Stopped Route 17 southbound traffic will be permitted to clear in between each full traffic stop. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control. Single lane closures between 9 p.m. and 10 a.m.

Route 17 near Fauquier County Line

Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 17 near the Stafford County and Fauquier County line to repair the bridges over Deep Run near Hartlake Road. 

Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Daytime Work

Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. As part of the Courthouse Road widening project, expect brief delays with alternating, one-way traffic at the following locations:

 

  • Austin Ridge Drive
  • Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane to Walpole Street and Austin Ridge Drive to Red Oak Drive
  • Ramoth Church Road
  • Snowbird Lane
  • Winding Creek Road between Courthouse Road and Embrey Mill Road
  • Woodcutters Road
  • Wyche Road

Route 630 (Courthouse Road) Nighttime Work

Monday – Friday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect nighttime flagging operations on Courthouse Road between Cedar Lane and Wapole Street for paving. Flaggers will alternate, one-way traffic on Courthouse Road.

Woodcutters Road Nighttime Work

Sunday – Saturday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect nighttime flagging operations on Woodcutters Road between Courthouse Road and Cutstone Drive for paving. Flaggers will alternate, one-way traffic near the work zone.

Cardinal Forest Subdivision

Tuesday – Thursday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be paving various routes in the Cardinal Forest subdivision. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic near the work zone. Crews will place “No Parking” signs on the affected streets at least three business days before work begins to notify residents of specific days parking will be prohibited. When work begins, we ask that you avoid parking vehicles on the street on the designated days. Also, please avoid placing anything in the street during the work week such as garbage cans, basketball hoops, etc. If garbage cans do need to be placed in the street, please remove them promptly.  

Spotsylvania County

Bloomsbury Subdivision

Wednesday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Crews will be patching and paving various routes in the Bloomsbury subdivision off Route 208 (Courthouse Road). A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic near the work zone.

Caroline County

Route 301 Southbound

Sunday − Sunday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Expect single lane closures on Route 301 southbound for bridge repairs between the towns of Bowling Green and Port Royal.

Route 619 (Milford Drive)

Sunday – Tuesday, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. A flagging crew will alternate, one-way traffic on Route 619 (Milford Drive) near Main Street for milling and paving.

Route 658 (Jericho Road)

Tuesday, 12 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Drivers should expect brief delays on Route 658 (Jericho Road) from Route 601 (Cedar Fork Road) to Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway). Crews will be applying pavement markings.  A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone.

Bowling Green Pavement Markings

Tuesday, 12 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Drivers should expect brief delays on various routes in Bowling Green. Crews will be applying pavement markings in this area.  A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone.

Essex County

Route 17 Southbound

Monday – Thursday, 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. Expect a single lane closure on Route 17 southbound at the bridge over Mt. Landing Creek near Tappahannock for bridge repairs.

Gloucester County

Route 641 (Tidemill Road)

Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 641 (Tidemill Road) at the bridge over Sarah Creek, which is located between Route 17 and Guinea Road, for bridge repairs.

King George County

Route 206 (Dahlgren Road)

Monday – Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Crews will direct one-way, alternating traffic on Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) between Route 301 and Route 614 (Potomac Drive) to allow crews to install center line rumble strips as part of the safety improvement project. A flagging crew and a pilot truck will direct traffic in the work zone.  Motorists can expect significant travel delays and are advised to use alternate routes during work zone hours.

Route 218 (Caledon Road)

Monday – Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Milling and paving, and shoulder widening in some areas. Part of a resurfacing and safety improvement project. Crews will be working on Route 218 between Route 206 and 1.3 miles east of Indiantown Road, and between Route 301 and Route 206. A flagging crew and a pilot truck will direct traffic in the work zone.  Motorists can expect significant travel delays and are advised to use alternate routes during work zone hours.

King and Queen County

Route 14

Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Drivers should be alert to a mobile pavement marking  operation on Route 14 between Route 360 and Route 614 (Devils Three Jump Road). A flagging crew will direct one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone.

King William County

Route 360 Northbound

Monday Sunday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Expect a single lane closure on Route 360 northbound between Mt. Pleasant Road and Commerce Park Drive for bridge beam repairs.

Lancaster County

Route 1069

Tuesday, 12 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Expect a mobile operation on Route 1069 near Route 200 (Irvington Road) intersection. Crews will be installing pavement markings. A flagging crew will alternate one-way traffic on Route 1069.

Middlesex County and Lancaster County

Robert O. Norris Bridge Inspection 

Saturday, Oct. 12, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Crews will be conducting routine inspections on the Robert O. Norris Bridge located on Route 3 over the Rappahannock River.  Drivers should expect single lane closures on the bridge each day through Oct. 31. Automatic flagging devices will be used to direct drivers through the work zone.

Fredericksburg District

Caroline County

Route 646 (Fork Bridge Road): ROAD CLOSED

VDOT crews are replacing a structurally deficient bridge over Maracossic Creek on Route 646 (Fork Bridge Road). Motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour route, which is approximately 7 miles, along Route 627 (Roundabouts Road/Mattaponi Trail) and Route 721 (Newtown Road). The bridge closed in September 2019 and is estimated to remain closed through December 2019.

Stafford County

Route 3 Business and Route 606 (Ferry Road) Intersection

Work underway to improve this intersection is estimated to be complete by the end of 2019. Motorists should be alert for construction activity on Route 3 Business and on Ferry Road between the CSX railroad crossing and Route 3 Business. Route 608 (Brooke Road): ROAD CLOSED

Brooke Road is closed to through traffic near Eskimo Hill Road. This is a Stafford County project to realign the roadway to improve safety and drainage. Brooke Road will remain closed with a detour during construction.  

King William County

Route 662 (Sharon Road): ROAD CLOSED 

Project schedule under development. Crews are repairing damage from Tropical Storm Michael. The project is reconstructing a slope near the road and replacing the culvert.
