I-95 NORTHBOUND FULL TRAFFIC STOPS OVERNIGHT IN STAFFORD COUNTY
All northbound traffic will be stopped in 30-minute intervals starting early tomorrow, Nov. 3 as construction advances on the new Truslow Road overpass
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Overnight travelers on Interstate 95 northbound can expect delays with intermittent full traffic stops as construction advances on the new Truslow Road overpass in Stafford County as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.
Starting at 9 p.m. tonight, Nov. 2, a single lane on I-95 northbound will close followed by double lane closures near the Truslow Road bridge to prepare for the full traffic stops.
The Truslow Road overpass is located at mile marker 134 just north of the Exit 133 (Route 17) interchange.
All I-95 northbound traffic will be stopped intermittently between midnight tomorrow, Nov. 3 to 3 a.m.
Each stop may last up to 30 minutes at a time. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full stop.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
Weather permitting, the following lane closures and stoppages have been scheduled on I-95 northbound near Exit 133:
Monday, Nov. 2 – Tuesday, Nov. 3
- 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. – Single lane closure
- 10 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. – Double lane closure
- Midnight – 3 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes
- 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open
Project Background
Crews are currently building a 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17).
The I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project is replacing the Truslow Road and the American Legion Road overpasses to accommodate construction of two new reversible Express Lanes in the median.
Truslow Road closed to through traffic for overpass construction on Jan. 27, 2020, and was estimated to reopen to traffic in fall 2020. The schedule has been extended, with the road now anticipated to open in winter 2020-early 2021.
The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022.
