VDOT News - Hampton Roads

NOTE: This list covers full closures of interstates, ramps, bridges and primary roads, and lane closures at the bridge-tunnels and the Berkley, Coleman, High Rise and James River bridges. 

*Scheduled closures are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors.*

Bridge and Tunnels: 

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, I-64:  

- Alternating, single-lane closures in both directions June 5-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, I-664:  

- Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures southbound June 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  
- Alternating, single-lane closures southbound June 8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

High Rise Bridge, I-64: 

- Brief, intermittent stoppages eastbound June 4 from 7-9 a.m. 

Berkley Bridge, I-264:

- Double-lane closures westbound June 7 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.  

James River Bridge, Route 17: 

- Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures southbound June 4-7 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 
- Single-lane closure southbound June 5 and June 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
- Alternating, mobile, single-lane closures in both directions June 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown/Midtown Tunnels):  

- Go to Elizabeth River Tunnels for maintenance schedules on the Downtown Tunnel (I-264), Midtown Tunnel (U.S. 58) and MLK Expressway (Route 164).  

I-64, Southside Widening, High Rise Bridge Expansion:

I-64, Express Lanes: 

- Full closure in both directions: 
         - June 5 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 
         - June 8 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. 

I-264, Norfolk: 

- Brief, intermittent stoppages on I-264 east in the collector-distributor lanes at I-64 east (exit 14A) June 5-8 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

I-264, Virginia Beach: 

- Full closure of the off-ramp from I-264 east to Independence Boulevard north (exit 17B) June 6-8 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Other Notable Closures:

- Traffic shift on southbound First Colonial Road in Virginia Beach from the Target shopping center entrance to the intersection with Laskin Road as early as June 4, with law enforcement directing traffic at the Laskin Road intersection with First Colonial Road from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Click here for the full traffic alert: conta.cc/3ITnSSq
