GREAT FALLS - Beginning on or about Wednesday, June 3, weather permitting, drivers can expect single-lane and shoulder closures along westbound Route 7 between Atwood Road and Forestville Drive Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree-clearing and grubbing along the VDOT right of way. The work is to prepare these areas for construction that will add a lane and shared-use path in each direction of Route 7.

Please note crews are only working within the VDOT right of way and where rights have been acquired from property owners (read more).

As a reminder, the Route 7 speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive, and Virginia law prohibits the use of handheld cell phones while driving through an active work zone.

Please use caution and be alert to work zone signs, potential flagger or police direction, and watch for traffic shifts. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering or exiting the road.
