Overnight Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-66 West in Centreville August 17-21 for Overhead Bridge Work at Route 28
FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 West approaching Route 28 in Centreville are planned August 17-21 for overhead bridge work on a new Route 28 South bridge over I-66. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Tuesday, August 17, through Saturday, August 21
I-66 West from Stringfellow Road to Route 28
- I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Route 28 Tuesday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. weekdays, and by 9 a.m. weekends.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The Route 28 Interchange is being reconstructed to improve traffic flow on I-66 and Route 28, and provide access to and from the future I-66 Express Lanes. The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes from I-495 to Route 29 in Gainesville are expected to open in December 2022.
