Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges September 17-23 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
UPDATE (9/21/2023): The following ramp closures will be implemented tonight.
Thursday night, September 21
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for utility work. Traffic will be directed to travel south on Route 28, exit to Route 29 North, stay right to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East.
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Monday night, September 18, through Saturday night, September 23
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29 North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 29.
Sunday night, September 17, through Saturday night, September 23
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) North
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed to Route 234 Business South, continue to the traffic signal at Balls Ford Road, stay to the left and make a U-turn from the left turn lane onto Route 234 Business North.
Sunday night, September 17, through Saturday night, September 23
Ramp from Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for a lane shift. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 East, exit to Route 234 Business, stay left, and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 West.
Monday, September 18
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Monday, September 18
Ramps from Route 286 North and South to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for light pole removal. Route 286 North traffic will be directed to continue north past I-66, exit to Route 50 East, travel about two miles and follow signs to I-66 East. Route 286 South traffic will be directed to exit to Route 50 East prior to the closure, then follow signs to I-66 East.
Monday, September 18
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 North
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for light pole removal. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North.
Monday, September 18; Tuesday, September 19; and Saturday, September 23
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for light pole removal. Drivers will be directed to Route 50 West, stay to the right to the I-66 West ramp, then stay to the right and follow signs to Route 50 East.
Monday night, September 18, and Tuesday night, September 19
Ramp from Nutley Street North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for gantry erection. Traffic will be directed to continue north, stay to the left and make a U-turn from the left-most left turn lane at the traffic signal at Virginia Center Boulevard onto Nutley Street South, then stay right and follow signs to I-66 West.
Tuesday, September 19, through Thursday, September 21
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. for light pole removal. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.
Friday night, September 22
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 South, travel to Route 29 North, stay right to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East.
Friday night, September 22
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, exit to Route 29 North, then stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers headed to Braddock Road/Walney Road will stay left and follow signs to that exit.
Saturday, September 23
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 West.
Thursday, September 21, and Saturday, September 23
Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South
The ramp will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for drainage and punch list work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left and follow the roundabout onto Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South.
