STAUNTON – A new speed limit of 45 miles per hour will become effective on Route 263 (Orkney Grade) in the vicinity of Route 614 (South Middle Road) in Shenandoah County.  This location is west of the Town of Mount Jackson.

On its east side the new 45 mile per hour speed zone adjoins the existing 35 mile per hour speed zone just west of the Town of Mount Jackson. The western edge of the 45 mile per hour speed zone ends 0.1 mile west of Route 614, where the speed limit increases to 55 miles per hour.

The two adjacent speed zones will work to improve safety and reduce crashes by limiting sudden changes in vehicle speeds in this area along with speed enforcement. 

The new speed limit signs will be installed during the week of June19. These signs will remain covered until Wednesday, June 28. Once uncovered the new speed limit goes into effect.
